Silence of the Birds | Ibrahim Abusitta

December 7, 2023

As a Palestinian living in the diaspora, I am limited in the ways I can support my people who are suffering back home. I attend rallies, raise funds for donations, and use my social media platform to educate others. Personally affected by the conflict affecting the Palestinian people, I have also channeled my thoughts and feelings into my painting practice.

Silence of the Birds, acrylic on panel, 12 x 9”, 2023

The symbolic notion that a bird represents freedom is forgotten in a concentration camp. With all the eyes focused on tragedy, the silence of the birds falls on deaf ears.

Exiled and Isolated, acrylic on panel, 24 x 26”, 2023

To be born in exile is to feel an isolation of the self. The diaspora lives between two worlds while belonging to neither. We carry our histories on our shoulders.

The Young Will Never Forget, acrylic on panel, 9 x 12”, 2023

The atrocities inflicted on our people will never be forgotten. We stand united against the brutal occupation.

The Light Amid The Darkness, acrylic on panel, 20 x 16”, 2023

The collective pain of the people is not greater than the belief in justice. When everything feels hopeless, we must hold on to the light amid the darkness.
